English Language

English Language tests students reading and writing skills. Each paper is worth 80 marks, with half the marks for reading and half the marks for writing.

Although there are some subtle differences between the two papers, they have several common themes:

  • Students will be asked to read an extract from a longer text.
  • Students will be asked to answer questions testing their reading skills, including analysing language, structure and the viewpoints presented.
  • Students will complete an extended piece of writing.

For a detailed description of the different papers, please have a look at this document:

To improve their English Language skills, it’s essential that students practice. Click on the ‘paper one’ and ‘paper two’ tabs for ideas for practising at home and other useful resources, including ‘how to’ guides and some practice questions.
